I'm opening an online business?

I am opening an online business and I'm trying to figure out what legal things I need to handle. Do I need permits or business licenses? Do I need to trademark my company name? What forms do I need to complete? I'm pretty confused because all the research that I've done, I've only seen forms for physical stores, not online businesses. I live in North Carolina and I'm not sure what laws they have in regards to online businesses. I need some kind of insight!!
